Unique opportunity for singers to join cast of acclaimed new touring show
The search is on to find four non-professional singers to join the cast of a major new touring dance theatre event when it arrives at Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, next April.
Created to mark the 25th anniversary of the demolition of Grimethorpe Colliery in South Yorkshire and 30 years since the rise of UK rave culture, acclaimed choreographer Gary Clarke’s Wasteland is now touring nationally after receiving rave reviews in its launch season.
The Gary Clarke Company is looking for four singers aged over 40 with experience of singing in a group setting or community choir to play the role of ex-coal miners.
No professional experience is necessary, but applicants should have experience of learning songs from memory and singing in unison. The roles will involve some moving on and around the stage and interacting with other members of the company.
Singers will be supported throughout the process by acclaimed Musical Director Steven Roberts, Assistant Musical Director Charlie Rhodes, Choreographer and Artistic Director Gary Clarke and Company Associate Alistair Goldsmith, working with everyone’s individual needs and abilities.
Music and tracks will be provided four weeks in advance of the choir’s intensive rehearsals, where participants will work directly with the company to learn the show.
Each participant will receive a food and travel allowance to help cover the cost of rehearsals and performances.
Applications are being welcomed now until Friday 20 March 2020 with rehearsals scheduled at Lighthouse on Saturday 18 April (10am-4pm) and Monday 20 April (5.30-10pm) with final rehearsals and the evening performance on Wednesday 22 April.
