NEWS: Tobacco Factory are delighted to announce they have received financial support form the Government's Culture Recovery Fund.

Tobacco Factory Theatres receives essential support from Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund

Tobacco Factory Theatres is incredibly grateful and relieved to have been awarded £246,440 as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF).

This essential support will enable Tobacco Factory Theatres to look ahead with renewed hope and ambition and invest in the resources needed to welcome people back to Tobacco Factory Theatres in the near future.

All at Tobacco Factory Theatres have sorely missed the human connections, theatrical moments and creative adventures which would normally be shared with its communities – from artists and audiences, to members and participants in its Get Involved participatory programme. These communities will be at the heart of Tobacco Factory Theatres’s onward plans.

Tobacco Factory Theatres is extending an enormous thank you to everyone who has stood alongside them during the last seven months. From generous donations and words of reassurance and inspiration, each contribution has been vital in ensuring the survival of Tobacco Factory Theatres.

Mike Tweddle, Artistic Director and David Dewhurst, Acting Executive Director said:

In April, Tobacco Factory Theatres faced a serious threat of permanent closure. This news offers us the confidence that we can remain afloat, through what continues to be an immensely challenging time for our sector and for society in general. We will be forever grateful to everyone whose support kept us going to this point. We also want to pay tribute to our extraordinary staff team who have been through so much, made generous sacrifices and worked against the odds. We will work hard to ensure that the benefits of this funding are felt by audiences, freelance artists and all the communities with whom we work. In our theatre’s history there has never been a more important time to provide shared creative experiences and joy.

Tobacco Factory Theatres is one of 588 cultural and creative organisations across the country receiving urgently needed support – with £76 million of investment announced today. This follows £257 million awarded earlier in the week to 1,385 organisations, also from the Culture Recovery Fund grants programme being administered by Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Further rounds of funding in the cultural and heritage sector are due to be announced over the coming weeks.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said:

This is more vital funding to protect cultural gems across the country, save jobs and prepare the arts to bounce back. Through Arts Council England we are delivering the biggest ever investment in the arts in record time. Hundreds of millions of pounds are already making their way to thousands of organisations.

These awards build on our commitment to be here for culture in every part of the country.

Chair, Arts Council England, Sir Nicholas Serota, said:

Culture is an essential part of life across the country, helping to support peoples wellbeing through creativity and self-expression, bringing communities together, and fuelling our world class creative industries.

This latest set of awards from the Culture Recovery Fund builds on those announced recently and will help hundreds of organisations to survive the next few months, ensuring that the cultural sector can bounce back after the crisis.  We will continue doing everything we can to support artists and cultural and creative organisations, with further funding to be announced in the coming weeks.

Tobacco Factory Theatres will be sharing its plans and further updates in the next few weeks.
