GASTRONOMY REVIEW: Poseidon Restaurant, Wallasey. The Wirral.

If it is superb quality food, served in the traditional way, at a reasonable price that yoiu are after, then you simply can't go wrong with the Poseidon Greek Restaurant in Wallasey, on the Wirral.

Everything, from the booking of a table, to parking, to the layout and ambience of the restaurant, to the staff, and of course, the food itself, is excellent. A medium-sized room, behind a typically continental double door, awaits. Tastefully decorated tables are surrounded by mock ancient walls and Greek memorabilia, whilst the background music plays traditional Greek songs. If I had to criticise at all, then the music needed to be turned down a little, it was just a little too loud to be true background music.

The menu is long and comprehensive, and it is one of those where you simply want to start at the top and try a portion of everything until you reach the end, and then start all over again! For our starters, my companion and I chose Stuffed Mushrooms and Kolokithokeftedes (courgettes, onion and cheese fried in breadcrumbs). Both were very generous portions, and served to perfection. Warm flatbread was also brought to the table which was devoured with just as much gusto!

Our entrees were even more impressive, and cooked to absolute perfection. I opted for a lamb shank (which simply fell from the bone and was cooked in beer and honey), whilst my companion opted for lamb chops. Both rice and potatoes were presented in a separate turine, and we both took great pleasure in savouring these wonderful dishes.

We were both quite full at this stage, but no visit to a Greek restaurant is truly complete without a sickly sweet dessert; and so we shared a large slice of baklava between us.

A glass of wine each, and tea / coffee to finish, and it still didn't cost as much as a night out in Manchester for one! Great service, very welcoming, patience, polite, and friendly. Highly recommended.
