EVENT REVIEW: Silcock's Winter Wonderland - Event City, Manchester.

Roll up! Roll up! For all the fun of the fair! Silcock’s Winter Wonderland features four hours of non-stop fun and entertainment for children at UK’s largest indoor Christmas theme park. After a four year gap, Kingpin Events has transformed the indoor exhibition space of 22,000 square metres into a fun-packed fairground featuring over fifty family rides and attractions all under one roof with dodgems, rollercoasters, waltzers, a mini train track and many other children’s rides.

Fake snow was falling as we entered and we were greeted by elves and fairies; there was a pre-event show taking place on stage as we queued to enter the main event; local talented youngsters entertained us with songs and dancing and then it was on to the fairground rides and making decisions which queue to join. Father Christmas’s grotto was first on the list complete with reindeers, with a meet-and-greet visit with Santa and the customary grotto toy gifts. There was also an option to join in the photo opportunity with Father Christmas in the Toy Workshop.

The panto, 'The Wizard Of Oz' was being performed on a nearby stage and this proved to be a popular event. Dorothy and her companions, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the cowardly Lion featured on their adventures in the land of Oz protected from the Wicked Witch of the West by the magical powers of the Good Witch. The production included favourite sing-a-long tunes.

There were also other theatrical shows on the main stage including TV stars Daisy and Ollie, 'The Ice Princess Show' and 'Christmas Meltdown'. We decided on the Christmas Circus which thrilled with jugglers and other usual circus acts.

As Christmas songs rang out, the blow-up Disney bouncy castle and slides proved popular, as were the many rides and games stalls which included Hook-a-Duck, Archery, Shooting Gallery, Sudden Impact and Football Hot Shots.

An abundance of food and drinks stalls were available with German sausages, pizza, donuts, ice cream, waffles, crepes, kiddie’s sweets, coffee and a carvery stall plus an authentic German Bar for alcoholic drinks and refreshments.

This Christmas event proved a top attraction in Manchester for five years from 2013-2017 becoming one of the city’s biggest annual events and now the much-loved attraction has returned bigger and better than before proving to be an unmissable festive family adventure.

Youngsters can get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy four hours of non-stop festive fun and entertainment; all rides are included in the entrance ticket price, excluding games and food stalls, and there is the added bonus of 3,000 free car park spaces.

Winter Wonderland is probably best enjoyed by youngsters aged five upwards and is available up to Sunday 2nd January 2022.
