NEWS: The Recovery Season has begun - at Millgate Arts Centre, Saddleworth.

The recovery season has begun…be a part of it.

The recovery season starts tonight with a sold out performance of Alan Stockdill’s new comedy The Cow Fields of Slack Bottom. Very apt as Alan’s play was also the last one we performed. 

We are proud to come back with five Saddleworth Players Shows, Saddleworth Live and Saddleworth Concerts Society shows which together demonstrate that the reach and ambition of the Millgate Arts Centre is not only undimmed but renewed.

Saddleworth Players’ Season begins on Saturday 25^th September with ‘Two’ by Jim Cartright, a sharp, salty, quickfire evocation of the surface gaiety and underlying melancholia of English pub life. For those of us who are only just beginning to enjoy the reality of a good pub atmosphere, this evocative two-hander will give us an insight into the lives and loves played out, pint in hand, night after night.

We are so looking forward to reopening and  welcoming you all back to our much loved, creative hub.  We also wish to ensure that we do so in a Covid secure way that protects the audience, the performers and the workers and volunteers alike.

The whole building has been redecorated and deep cleaned, and we have an enhanced cleaning regime in operation between shows. Hand sanitisers will be available at entry points and our ushers will encourage their use plus keep the flow of people moving from the foyer through to the auditorium and bar areas to prevent congestion. So too the bar and glasses are squeaky clean and ready for use, with single use, recyclable plastic glasses for auditorium use being sourced.

Shutting down last year was heartbreaking for us. And everyone has endured so much. After an eternity when we couldn’t open the building, we will open our doors with new safety measures in place so that your visit feels completely secure, with a deep clean, special cleaning measures, new ventilation and socially distanced entrances and exits.
