Join us on the red carpet for the exclusive world premiere screening of Lawrence: After Arabia, the eagerly anticipated new film about the final years of TE Lawrence, on Saturday 9 October with all proceeds in aid of Lighthouse. 

Shot in Dorset with a largely local cast and crew supporting a stellar line-up that includes Brian Cox, Michael Maloney, Hugh Fraser, Nicole Ansari Cox and Tom Barber Duffy in the title role, the film focuses on the events that led up to Lawrence’s mysterious death following a motorcycle accident near Bovington Camp on 13 May 1935. With so many powerful and influential friends, among them Winton Churchill, Lawrence also had his shares of enemies – was his death the result of a freak accident or a bodged assassination? 

Lawrence: After Arabia has been a labour of love for writer-director Mark JT Griffin, the result of a long-held fascination with the life and time of TE Lawrence that dates back to his childhood discovery of war artist Eric Kennington’s life-size effigy of the national hero in Arab dress that lies in the 1000-year-old St Martin’s Church in Wareham. 

The film was ready for release last year but has been rescheduled several times due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, Lawrence: After Arabia has won a series of prestigious international film awards in lockdown including Best Feature at both the Florence Film Awards and IndieFEST Film Awards where Tom Barber-Duffy also won Best Actor. Mark JT Griffin won an Audience Award at the Vegas Movie Awards and was named Best Director at the Kosice International Monthly Film Festival. 

Keen local interest in the making of the film and the wider public’s continuing pre-occupation with the last act in the story of a genuine national hero also attracted music legends Rick Wakeman and Bruce Woolley (ex-Buggles), Guy Protheroe of the English Chamber Choir and composer-musician Clifford White to collaborate on the soundtrack, which won Best Original Score in the Accolade Competition. 

The charity premiere in aid of Lighthouse will be screened on Screen On Stage, the next-level cinema experience with surround sound in the familiar surroundings of our Theatre and as befits the auspicious occasion there is a black tie dress code (optional). The ticket price includes a souvenir programme with a welcome drink on arrival. 

This is a Lighthouse fundraising event; all proceeds will directly support our work enriching our communities through shared cultural experiences.
