Octagon Theatre have a double bill of online entertainment |
The Octagon Theatre recently announced their exciting autumn programme which includes a selection of entertainment for audiences to enjoy at home. The Olivier Award winning comedy Home, I’m Darling and the digital world premiere of brand new comedy Going the Distance are available to watch online. The 5-star (Theatre Weekly, The Yorkshire Post and What’s Good To Do) production of Laura Wade’s sharp and witty comedy Home, I’m Darling opened at the Octagon earlier this month and the venue are now providing a video on demand option available now until Sat 2 October. This digital version was filmed in front of a live socially distanced audience and ticket holders can watch the production any time up to Sat 2 October, with access to the show for 2 days after pressing play. Tickets start from £12. Director of Photography for Home, I’m Darling, Daniel Abell, commented: “One of the key things for me is that I didn’t want to produce a ‘film’ – it’s a capture of a live theatre performance. We want you to see the audience, to feel like you’re sitting there. We’re trying to give you the best seat in the house!” Can the seeming ‘perfection’ of a 1950s domestic goddess transpire in a 21st century world? Find out in this brilliantly funny production as one couple’s fantasy perhaps goes a little too far. The Octagon are also one of a number of partner venues to present a digital production of a brand new comedy, Going the Distance by Henry Filloux-Bennett and Yasmeen Khan about a little theatre with a huge challenge. Set in March 2020 as theatre across the country go dark, watch the fun unfold as Matchborough Community Centre fight to save their venue with a fundraising production of Wizard (inspired by but for rights purposes certainly not based on The Wizard of Oz). With a stellar cast including Sara Crowe, Nicole Evans, Stephen Fry, Shobna Gulati, Sarah Hadland, Merch Husey, Matthew Kelly, Emma McDonald and Penny Ryder. Going the Distance is a co-production by Lawrence Batley Theatre, Oxford Playhouse, The Dukes and The Watermill Theatre. Ticket holders can book tickets for a specific date and will have access to watch the production for 48 hours. Tickets are priced at £15. The Octagon Theatre’s Chief Executive, Roddy Gauld said: “Our online productions provide a wonderful opportunity for audiences to enjoy the theatrical experience at home. We know that people are still easing out of Covid restrictions at their own pace and we have programming options this autumn for those who are not yet ready or able to come to the theatre in person. “We’re also delighted to reach audiences from further afield who perhaps cannot travel to the Octagon and want to enjoy our work. “These two high quality productions are available on demand, and are the perfect entertainment for a theatrical evening in!” Tickets for the online productions of Home, I’m Darling and Going the Distance can be booked via the Octagon’s website octagonbolton.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01204 520 661. The Octagon is a See it Safely and Good to Go approved venue complying with all the latest government guidance and have implemented Covid-safety measures to keep audiences safe.
