1920s stately home drama
to premiere at Theatr Clwyd
The play, a love story set
in 1920’s Wales, is about Miss Julie, the heiress of a stately home, in a world
changed by the First World War. The prospect of marriage gone after the carnage
in the trenches, she is facing the possibility of a life alone. In one night of
passion, Miss Julie and her servant, John will break the social taboos that
society has made for them.
Wales-based, Ted Hughes Award-winning playwright Kaite O’Reilly said:
“I wanted to adapt this classic
love story to set it in Wales during a time of change and uncertainty. The show
explores female desire, the taboo around disability and sexuality at a major
time of change 100 years ago.”
The
show is directed by Chelsea Walker, who directed Theatr Clwyd’s production of A
Streetcar Named Desire. She leads a cast of established theatre stars
including Theatr Clwyd regular Catrin Aaron (who appeared in Orpheus
Descending and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice), Tim Pritchett (Black
Mirror, Netflix), and acclaimed performer Heledd Gwynn, who has
appeared for the National Theatre of Wales, in the title role.
Missing
Julie runs from 16 September to 9 October at Theatr Clwyd. Tickets are from
£10. Booking available at Theatr Clwyd’s website theatrclwyd.com or by calling 01352 344101.
