ONLINE CHILDREN'S THEATRE REVIEW: Mother Christmas - Little Angel Theatre

From Little Angel Theatre's Youtube channel, comes this, their latest children's entertainment; a 20 minute "film" called 'Mother Christmas'.

Using part animation, part puppetry, as well as real live action, we watch as two young girls switch on their TV to watch LAT News as the programme sends a reporter to the North Pole to interview Father Chrsitmas's wife, Mrs. Christmas - or Mother Christmas as she is called here.

The reporter finds himself inside Mother Christmas's control centre. She is the brains behind the operation. She is the one who plans the sleigh's route, organises the presents, making an inventry and making sure they are stacked in the correct order, and whilst her husband is out delivering the presents she is 'air traffic control' and has video contact with him all the time. Yes, times have changed, children, and even The North Pole is up-to-date with all the latest technology and gadgetry.

Whilst the interviewer is there, her mischievous pixie helper has decided to cause mayhem and chaos by hiding in the sleigh and causing Father Christmas to crash the sleigh. Panic stations as Mother Christmas skillfully controls everything from her office, and gets her husband back on track again so all the children will have their correct presents delivered to them on time.

It's a lovely story, and very contemporary putting a strong female character as the lead. Her brusqueness is tempered with a sickly sweet smile and an 'all-in-a-days-work' attitude. Played here with relish by Lizzie Wort, whilst both the interviewer and Father Christmas - two very contrasting characters - were played with skill by Gilbert Taylor.

The puppets (Pixie) were produced by Lyndie Wright and the whole was written and directed by Barb Jungr and Samantha Lane. The play-out song, "Mother Chrsitmas Saves The Day" was written and performed by Barb Jungr, and makes a lovely addition to the festive childrens song roster.

Enjoyable for children of all ages!
