NEWS: Fjorda announces debut single 'Unspoken'.

FJORDA

THE DEBUT SINGLE: ‘UNSPOKEN’

OUT FRIDAY 11TH DEC VIA AT SWIM MUSIC

‘Unspoken’ is the stripped back, nostalgic debut ballad from Boston-based, Russia-born singer songwriter & electronic music producer FJORDA - out Friday 11th Dec via At Swim Music.

Written as a way of connecting with someone left behind, ‘Unspoken’ is a haunting, understated slice of melancholia fuelled by faraway noises and Fjorda’s emotive, plaintive voice. Melting into a languid, halting piano motif it’s easy to become lost in her world.

The story of her vocal throughout the song is at times melancholic, at others either forthright or aching with rawness, always startlingly expressive and able to get to the very centre of you. As Russian ghosts whisper secret truths in each ear, the instrumental outro plays out with a simultaneously childlike and world-weary melody.

Fjorda was born in Russia and grew up during the years of the collapse of socialism and the chaos of the new political reality. Her upbringing and turbulent adolescence led her to discover and ultimately fall in love with music. Fully self-taught since the age of 10, music became a form of liberation and escape; a mesmerizing, imaginary place to be. The hardships of growing up in the post-soviet era also taught her the resilience, perseverance and self-reliance she would need later on.

At the age of 20, Fjorda went through a major transition, relocating from her remote hometown in Russia to a bustling metropolitan city in the United States. With nowhere to go, no friends or family and little means to survive, she steadily built a new life for herself in a different, larger world.

Once standing firmly on her feet, she refocused on her dream and began studying electronic music production as well as collaborating with local musicians, all the while discovering, building and developing her own unique sound. Within a couple years, she'd be recording her own music, working with different producers and performing live at various local venues and festivals.

Fjorda's musical taste evolved over the years, from Muse and Radiohead in her teenage years, through the hypnotic trip-hop by Massive Attack and Portishead, to the deep, emotive soundscapes by Trentemoller, Burial and Sigur Ros. She connected with the unique style of Amy Winehouse and the genre-bending work of FKA twigs. However, above all, she looks up to Bjork as the greatest influence and inspiration on her creative work.

With her music, Fjorda is looking to fuse genres and use sound as a tool to paint a visceral, synesthetic landscape for the listeners, to allow for them to experience what she feels.
