PODCAST REVIEW: Two In A Bed Theatre Company
As part of the 2 day Theatre In Isolation Festival curated by Two In A Bed Theatre Company, they released the first episode of a podcast they are trying to get off the ground.
In this hour long opening episode the two young men, Joe Walsh and Owen Murphy (joint owners of the company) chat to each other like a couple of lads over a pint in a pub. However here they chat about theatre and why it is so important to them. They ask each other the same questions and really none of the answers come as any surprise to either them (they already know each other very well), or us the listener, since I imagine those who listen to this podcast will already have some knwoledge or deeper interest in the industry in the first place. There are a few moments of good advice and interest to the novice however.
The whole comes across as disorganised and ad-libbed, despite the banter being good natured. And there are distinctly far too many pauses and 'erms'. It does need some careful editing, and the losing of the many "vocalised thinkings" (as a profeesor of mine once called them) and the moments of silence before broadcasting. I liked the format, and it works... two lads chatting about the business in a very down-to-earth way, but I also feel it should be more consise and fitting for a radio audience. With radio, people are much more likely to switch off, and so it is much more important to be able to state clearly and precisely what you want to get across, and remember that even one second without a sound on radio is a very long time!
