BOOK REVIEW: Shadow Of War - J D Ruffin

TITLE: Shadow Of War
AUTHOR: J D Ruffin
PUBLISHED BY: J D Ruffin

Shadow Of War is the thrilling, action-packed third book in The Kingdom War series. For readers who enjoy magic, intrigue that will keep them wanting more, plus a dash of satirical humour, this is the perfect read.

This book in the series follows Heir Of Magic and Daughter Of Magic; it is an exciting addition to the fantasy series, The Kingdom War. There's certainly something for everyone in this story as Ruffin weaves an entertaining tale incorporating an extraordinary world of magic with make-believe, mystery, adventure and a dash of romance in this fantasy-inspired story.

Jess is crowned Queen with the King and Prince now dead, but she is forced to flee for her life with unexpected allies, Keelan and his adopted father and Mage, Atikus.

An invasion is started by Irina and she sends more than sixty-thousand troops across the border with instructions to destroy all who oppose her and for them to extinguish everything in their path. Declan and Orla return from the mystical isle of Rea Utu to discover death and destruction in Irina’s wake. They race against hope to reach Saltstone and fight for their freedom. Many questions follow for readers to discover the answers to such as, Will Irina’s wrath overpower Declan’s new-found power? And can Melucia survive? Can Declan stand against Irina's power?

All are answered in this action-packed fantasy fiction adventure.

I was immersed in Shadow Of War from the beginning after enjoying the two previous stories in the series; it was easy to pick up the story from where I’d left off and I was eager for more of the same. I enjoyed discovering more about the new characters who were captivating and pertinent to the story.

The action is fast-paced with non-stop fantasy adventure with some unexpected twists and turns; for readers who like fantasy, intrigue, and satirical humour they will find this book hard to put down.
