ONLINE MONOLOGUE REVIEW: Diff - The Lockdown Theatre Company

'Diff' by Rohan Candappa just starts to scratch the surface of a very explosive and much discussed topic, here beginning with the obvious physical difference, and in this short monologue asks many questions about what is different, what does it mean to be different, and perceptions of difference, that sadly the monologue loses its power and impact.

It doesn't help that the actor, Simon Minty, is given the line to tell us that is name is also 'Diff'. It somehow belittles him and the message the play is trying to project.

I really liked the idea of likening the now new norm of social distancing and our being naturally suspicious of people who come too close or don't wear masks etc, to this character's life experiences, but for me the monologue remains very superficial and doesn't really try to answer any of the many questions it throws our way.

A nice idea to develop and lengthen perhaps.
