Young Octagon selected as part of National Theatre Connections Festival |
Remote will be performed on 27 & 28 April The Young Octagon, the Octagon’s performance company for talented young actors, has been selected as one of the participating youth theatre companies to take part in this year’s Connections Festival from the National Theatre. Each year the National Theatre commissions ten new plays for young people to perform, bringing together some of the UK’s most exciting writers with the theatre-makers of tomorrow. National Theatre Connections Festival is one of the UK’s largest celebrations of youth theatre, commissioning plays for and about young people – telling stories about experiences from around the world that will challenge young people to experience life in someone else’s shoes and transport them to different times, places and emotional landscapes. Over 300 youth theatre companies and over 6000 young people from every corner of the UK are producing a Connections play this year and Bolton’s Young Octagon Company will be one of them. Remote, a play about protest, power and protecting yourself will be performed at the Octagon on Wed 27 & Thu 28 April. Seven teenagers’ lives all intertwine over the course of a single evening as they make their way through a park on a seemingly normal autumn’s night in this powerful play by Olivier Award-winning writer, Stef Smith. Following performances at the Octagon, the company will then transfer their production to The Lowry on Sun 1 May – one of the thirty Connections partner venues across the UK. Each partner venue hosts a week-long festival in which young companies from the region perform their work, take part in masterclasses and connect with each other. Director of Young Octagon’s production of Remote, Amy Hailwood said: “We are absolutely delighted that Young Octagon were selected to participate in this year’s Connections Festival and connect with the next generation of theatre makers by joining other young companies up and down the country. NT Connections is a fantastic programme and this opportunity enables Young Octagon to be a part of a professional production working with some brilliant and established professional theatre-makers”. Young Octagon participant, Caitlin Paramour added: “I have loved being in Young Octagon as it has allowed me to work with other young passionate creatives in classes that teach us how to work as an ensemble and connect with others. Working on Remote has been really exciting for everyone as we’ve been able to explore the analysis of the characters and add our own interpretation to the play.” Tickets for Remote are on-sale now priced at just £5.
