GASTRONOMY REVIEW: Tavernaki Bistro, Leeds.

Situated in the centre of Leeds, near the cathedral, law courts and not far from the university or general hospital, this bistro which serves Greek and Cypriot dishes, is ideally located. It's not very large inside, seating possibly 25 - 30 people at any one time, but when it becomes full, it will feel very cramped and crowded. Fortunately, my visit was late afternoon / early evening, and so was still quiet and relaxed.

The service is friendly and helpful, and the restaurant itself is immaculately clean, with plenty of light. However, the Greek music gets turned up louder and louder the more patrons are in the restaurant, and distracts when trying to converse over the table.

The menu is not large or particularly comprehensive, and the service is not particularly speedy either; but what they offer does all seem to be authentic food from the North Eastern end of the Med. You'll need to tell the staff though just exactly how well cooked you want all your dishes to be. Between my companion and myself, the calamari were slightly undercooked, the pork was undercooked and the lamb chops overdone.

I would suggest that the price is a little on the high side for the quality of the food served; but perhaps you are also paying for their location and Greek atmosphere.
