BOOK REVIEW: Daughter Of Magic

TITLE: Daughter Of Magic
AUTHOR: J.D.Ruffin
PUBLISHED BY: Joe Gilbert

This is the second book of the Kingdom Of War Series; Daughter Of Magic continues where Heir Of Magic left off. Ancient, evil Queen Irina continues scheming to return to the living world and to overthrow it; she's been gone a thousand years; she's very angry, she wants her throne back.

With her army on the border poised for attack, Guardsman Keelan Rea and his squad continue their frantic pursuit to save his treasured Healer. Whilst his brother, Declan journeys to an ancient isle looking for support for their kingdom’s greatly outnumbered army, he meets the enigmatic Keeper of Magic and he is forced to face his overriding dreads.

Betrayed by her lover, Jess races towards the same sacrificial destiny as other captured magicians; her father, the King, rallies the homeland to find her. Readers are kept on tenterhooks to find out if he will succeed.

This action-packed adventure story follows on from Book 1 and heroes, Keelan and brother Declan are sent on a quest to find the Magicals kidnapped in the previous story.

Their quest takes a darker turn as they also need to find a magical solution for the impending, seemingly hopeless, war with the Kingdom.

As the only non-Magical in the group, Declan is directed to pursue aid from the Keeper of Magic and finds assistance from a mysterious, entertaining baby owl that has more to her than first seems.

I was immediately drawn into Daughter Of Magic from the start; it was easy to pick up the story from where I’d left off and I was eager for more of the same. I enjoyed finding out more about the new characters who were intriguing and relevant. The brotherly dynamic of Keelan and Declan continued and I was able to deepen my understanding of each character; all of the characters held my attention and drew me into the imaginary fantasy world.

This is a well-written follow-on from Book 1; Ruffin has created an excellent, inimitable domain in a truly appealing story.

The action is fast-paced with non-stop fantasy adventure with some unexpected twists and turns; for readers who are fans of fantasy, intrigue, and satirical humour this story is a must.
