GASTRONOMY REVIEW: Dolce Vita Italian Restaurant, Wakefield.

A large, airy, and light restaurant with plenty of space between tables, and all in clear view of both the kitchen and bar (kitchen deliberately partially open to view), with plenty of lighting and appropriate and quiet ambient background music, Italian in style.  And so, despite the unprepossessing exterior, the atmosphere and layout inside was most appealing.

Friendly and helpful waiters / waitresses were in abundance, but certianly not fussy or over-attentive, and the menu was long and comprehensive. Again, more plus points here.

Our meals were nicely served, and were cooked to perfection. We had starters, main course, dessert and coffee, and so gave the establishment a true run for its money.

There were a couple of things however, which certainly could have been improved upon or made clearer. In the first instance, the main courses were, according to the menu, served with a selection of seasonal vegetables. Side orders of various styles of potato were also available. When the main courses arrived the vegetables consisted of 2 small carrots, a single small sprig of broccoli, and three boiled new potatoes! We had ordered a side order of chips needlessly, since potatoes were a part of their "seasonal vegetables". I would also suggest that the amount of vegetables received was somewhat on the mean side.

Another slight problem I found was with the serving of the fish cake starter. The fish cakes came with a sweet chilli sauce, however, the accompanying side salad had balsamic vinegar drizzled over it. The combination of sweet chilli sauce and balsamic vinegar is not one I would recommend to anyone!

And why the main course was served on a black tile rather than a plate I'll never know. A personal moan from someone who simply doesn't understand why restauraunts seem to think that anything other than an actual plate is an acceptable and trendy substitute.

However, as already stated the cooking of our food was done to perfection. And the dessert, a lemon cheesecake, was uniquely served and a pure delight.

If I were ever in the area again, I would happily return there.
