BOOK REVIEW: Legends Of Erin: Towards The Restless Winds

TITLE: Legends Of Erin: Towards The Restless Winds
AUTHOR: Meadow Griffin
PUBLISHED BY: Olympia Publishing

Welcome to the world of fantasy where non-stop adventure and magic awaits in Ireland. This is the second book in the wonderful Legends of Erin series and I couldn’t wait to find out more about twins Fadin and Tase O’Callaghan and their elder brother, Clearie. It is a delightful young adult novel that kept me hooked from the moment I started reading. It incorporates a set of characters that stand out because of their unusual descriptions and unpredictable personalities that I found it fascinating. Ciaran the goblin is one of my favourites; I found his dialect hilarious.

Fadin and Tase are struggling to adjust to their father’s death and living in their Aunt Kyra’s castle where a green goblin hides in the attic. They find themselves thrust into a magical world, and more importantly, on a quest to save those who matter most. With the Advisor to the King and the terrible Bojin family chasing them, the boys are hurtled into a race against time, not only for themselves and those they love, but to be the first to find an object of great power and evil before it falls into the wrong hands. With the pressure and dangers mounting, lives hang in the balance and the stakes are high.

Events from their mother’s secretive past endanger the family because she has stolen the Xoor, a powerful artefact. Pucuela, Advisor to the King and Bojin family, wants the Xoor to continue their evil exploits and so terrorises the O’Callaghans and anyone opposed to them. While fleeing, Fadin and Tase faces strange, frightening creatures and are curious as to why their disturbing dreams seem so real. With warnings of death hanging over them, they recognise how little they know about their mother and the mysterious enchanted world she has brought them into.

This is a brilliant fantasy page-turner with witty dialogue which young teenagers and grown-ups will love to read, a great novel for both audiences.  It is full of adventure, fantastical creatures, and magic.

Readers who enjoy books such as 'The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe', 'The Princess And The Goblin', 'Harry Potter' and 'Eragon'. will thoroughly enjoy this exciting adventure story. It’s a perfect squeal to 'Beyond The Castle Door', and after finishing it I think I liked this one even more than the first, others also may agree.

I think readers will find the inclusion of the pronunciation guide at the beginning of the book, along with the notes section very helpful.

Black and white drawings beautifully illustrate the story.
