BOOK REVIEW: Daisy Saves Christmas

TITLE: Daisy Saves Christmas
AUTHOR: Daisy Price and Sheila Gosling
PUBLISHED BY: Pegasus Elliot McKenzie

This story book is a wonderful collaboration between 10 year old Daisy and her Drama Therapist Sheila. Daisy has a life limiting condition, Spinal Muscular Atrophy which means she has to spend a lot of time in bed or lying down. Her weekly drama sessions with Sheila have produced this lovely imaginative book which is dedicated to families and friends at Sunflowers Care where Daisy lives.

Author Daisy is the main character in the story which takes place on Christmas Eve. Daisy is given a new gadget to try out which should enable Daisy’s bed to move. Just as she is trying it out, the doorbell rings and an elf tells her she is needed by Santa as he has a big problem and without her help Christmas may have to be cancelled. The elf pushes the buttons on the gadget and they fly to Santa’s house in the North Pole. With the aid of her new gadget Daisy is able to help Santa wrap all the presents and deliver them all around the world before being returned home. Daisy saves Christmas!

Delightful colourful illustrations help tell Daisy’s story which will delight early readers and pre-school children.

The book’s compact size makes it manageable for a child with small hands to hold. Plus, it has easy to slide pages which make it easier for small hands eagerly wanting to turn over to the next part of the story to handle. An added bonus is the wipe-clean front and back covers, ideal for parents reading the story to children with sticky fingers.

Author, Daisy is an inspiration and proof that a child’s imagination will shine through whatever challenges they many have to endure.  I hope this is one of many stories from this talented young girl.

  1. This is a really lovely review; however, as someone who knows the authors, I'd just like to give Sheila Gosling a little more credit, mostly for her illustrations and for her part with Daisy in creating the story itself. Still, thanks on their behalf for a nice review of the book.
