EVENT REVIEW: On Broadway - Planet Ice Rink, Altrincham.

Planet Ice's Altrincham rink opened itself up to the public, regular skaters and all who share a passion for the art and that of musical theatre for their annual Skate and Show display, this year with the theme Broadway!

What better way to spend an evening than by watching talented people elegantly showcase their talents on the ice with some of the industry's biggest and most iconic shows.

From a selection from A Chorus Line, finishing with the unmistakable 'One', complete with gold sequin jackets and top hats, performed by the adults section.

Then came the youngsters with 'Naughty', 'Trunchbull's song' and 'When I Grow Up' from Matilda, with the use of books, scooters, balls and teddies to enhance their great portrayals.

'Maybe', 'Hard Knock Life' (from the newest film version) and 'Tomorrow' from Annie preceeded 'All That Jazz', 'He Had It Coming' and a solo of 'Razzle Dazzle' from Chicago.

Bugsy Malone's 'Fat Sam's Grand Slam', ladies one and 'Talula', 'So You Wanna Be A Boxer' followed before the pink and black jackets were donned for 'Summer Nights', 'Beauty School Drop Out', 'Greased Lightning', 'We Go Together' from Grease.

'Good Morning Baltimore', 'I'm A Big Girl Now' and 'You Can't Stop The Beat' from Hairspray completed the spectacle with psychedelic dresses, before a finale of  'On Broadway'.

It was a pleasure to watch, seeing as the venue has classes courses and public skating sessions, but, as always - with a venue this vast - the sound let this down. At a single figure for a ticket, you could stick around and join the cast for a Broadway-themed skating session.

Well done to all and we can't wait for the next one.
