REPORTAGE: A Magical Christmas Movie Experience - Mayfield Depot, Manchester.
From the 23rd November until 16th December the three arches in the Mayfield Depot by Manchester's Piccadilly Station have been transformed into a magical Christmas experience for all the family with its promise of magical enchanted forests, street food, creative fun and a fairy-tale cinema experience with its high quality digital projector with a 33 foot wide screen this is a night you cannot miss during the festive season.
The venue is extremely well organised as you are greeted by Santa’s little Elf helper as you arrive and guided into the magnificent entrance of a frozen forest of enchantment lined with Christmas trees, fairy lights and an igloo tunnel leading you directly to the grand hall where Santa is seated awaiting to greet the children and their families whilst in the background you are serenaded with festive carols by Dan Maguire’s fabulous Christmas Choir.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming as you enter the main hall (arch) where one of the three bars situated directly in front of you is offering a fabulous choice of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks including an array of winter cocktails such as a ‘Winter Kiss’, ‘Moscow Mule’, ‘Candyfloss Martini’, ‘Winter Punch’ and ‘Mulled Spice Mojito’ or if you’re a hot chocolate type of person you can have this with or without alcohol; but, a word of caution for nut allergy sufferers, some of the hot beverages contain chopped hazelnuts. Also in the main hall is where the street food is situated offering you a fabulous flavourful frenzy of menu’s that will tantalise any palate from the award winning British Street Food in 2017 Dim Sum Su menu of Chinese food with a twist, offering anything from ‘Crispy Fried Bao’s’ to ‘Broccoli Bites’, The Lobster And Chip Company with its presentation menu of exclusive lobster combined with variations of chips to the Go Get Stuffed stall with its homemade burgers and gourmet hot-dogs.
One extremely important thing to mention with this food hall is that it is in an encapsulated stone arch with no ventilation so there is a lot of frying and cooking fumes from the stalls creating a cloud of chemical compositions and once again, this is a definite no-go area if you are a nut allergy sufferer as the Chinese stall has almost every dish containing nuts and there are nuts openly in a large bowl on the stall and nut oil present where the meat is dipped in before being placed in a Bao (bun).
Off to the left of the main hall is a free craft workshop where you are encouraged to put your creative skills to the test and make various items such as pottery bowls, candles, skipping ropes, wooden toy boats and numerous more items ensuring your little ones or big ones are entertained throughout the evening.
To the right of the main hall is where it all happens - the exclusive Christmas experience of watching your favourite blockbuster film on the phenomenal grandiose screen where you can snuggle down on giant bean bags, sit on chairs, or sit at tables and watch the film of your choice such as ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘Home Alone’, ‘Elf’, ‘Polar Express’ and many more (each event has its own individual film so please check when you book).
Verdict: This is a perfect evening to spend as a family, a couple or a solo visitor as it umbrellas everything a Christmas evening should be filled with - enchantment and total festive magic!
