ONLINE MONOLOGUE REVIEW: Homeschooling #3: Return Of The Term - NWE Live.

She’s back and this time there is truly nowhere to hide.

In her latest monologue Yazmin Walker, in the spirit of friendship and, “having his back”, takes under her wing the new headmaster of the Academy school that she has just joined in year 7. Given her customary hutzpah and unbelievable self-confidence, it is not long before the poor unsuspecting headmaster finds himself berated by Walker’s advice and pearls of wisdom. These include issuing every pupil with her new test and track app, allowing year 7s to go first in the lunchtime queue, (there is a kind of logic to this suggestion) and letting her choose the themes for future school assemblies.

Writer Mark Davoren’s whimsical creation has in three short monologues gradually become more and more tyrannical and I shudder to think what he is planning to do with the character next! Walker, as in the previous monologues, performs with great assuredness and self-belief well beyond her tender years.

My advice to Davoren and Walker would be to give the character a rest for a while, let her settle into school life and maybe revisit her when the full impact of her hold over the new headmaster is fully known. Until then let’s all enjoy the first three monologues and try not to think too much about what Davoren and Walker might have in store for future installments!
