ONLINE CONCERT REVIEW: Amplified: Broadway For Racial Justice

An online concert hosted and performed in isolation, with Brandon Michael Nase and Patina Miller as our MCs for the event alongside someone signing the introductions for the deaf.

The concert had 13 items in total, starting with a contemporary dance / rap piece which was the only one not to have been a solo song. The 12 songs which followed varied immensely in style, genre and ability. I have to admit that I started watching this concert thinking that the title of the show meant the songs would have been taken from the Muscial Theatre repertoire. In actual fact, only one song in the whole evening came form this treasure trove: Skylar Astin's version of "Children Will Listen" from 'Into The Woods'. The rest were all either Country, Pop or Folk songs.

The concert showcased some interesting artistes, from the bizarre and revealing costume of a professionally produced video of "Get It Right" by Sapphire Heart, through the definitely different "Different" by Empty Royalty, to the plaintive and heart-felt ballads such as Hailey Kilgore's "Still Hurting".

My two favourite songs of the evening though were Morgan James's version of the Country song "Visions Of Love" whilst accompanying himself on the guitar; and the slow and soulful ballad "I Love You The Most" sung here by Kayla Davison.

The concert aimed to raise awareness for racial injustices within Broadway specifically and the industry as a whole, as well as hoping to raise funds for the Broadway For Racial Justice charity.
