NEWS: Unique project creates new Music-in-Residency - Lighthouse, Poole.

Unique music project to create new music in residency at Lighthouse

A unique music project with collaboration and improvisation at its heart, the Lockett-Vetesse Band is to take up residency at Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, next week to create a new piece of work that will be performed and recorded as a one-off event.

The band, a meeting of the music and minds of award-winning percussionist Pete Lockett and internationally acclaimed songwriter/keyboardist Peter-John Vettesse, will finish next Friday by staging a concert in an empty Theatre at Lighthouse that will be recorded for future broadcast online as a one-off streaming event.

“Lighthouse is delighted to be able to welcome this most creative and inspiring partnership and to help Pete and Peter-John realise their latest ambition,” says Chief Executive Elspeth McBain.

During lockdown Pete undertook a number of remote collaborations with different artists from around the world and was keen to take the experience to the next level and work with fellow artists in person but behind closed doors. Reopening Lighthouse, albeit in a limited way, has meant we have been able to explore new ways of using our performance spaces until we can admit full audiences again.

To host international musicians of this calibre reminds us of the power of the arts to make sense of the world. I can’t wait to hear what they create at Lighthouse.”

A versatile and prolific performer, Pete Lockett draws on musical traditions from traditional Carnatic and Hindustani music of North and South India to traditional Japanese taiko drumming in styles that range from blues, funk and rock to classical, folkethnic and electronic. He has recorded and performed with artists as diverse as Bjork, Peter Gabriel, The Verve, Pet Shop Boys, Nitin Sawney, Jeff Beck and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Composer-producer-arranger Peter-John Vettesse was due to have performed at Lighthouse this autumn as a regular member of JethrTull and has also worked with Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys, Bee Gees, Annie Lennox and Gary Barlow.

During their week at Lighthouse the legendary musician-composer-producer BilBruford, best known for his work with the likes of Yes, King Crimson and Genesis, will record an interview Pete Lockett and Peter-John Vettesse for future broadcast as part of the streaming experience.

The Lockett-Vettesse Band project will be produced by Paul Cameron at Lighthouse from Monday 22 to Friday 25 September.
