Some of the world’s most influential blues and soul artists to perform at North Wales Blues and Soul Festival 2 – 4 August.

The North Wales Blues and Soul Festival, now in its sixth year, comes to Theatr Clwyd for the first time, with outdoor and indoor performance spaces weather-proofing this popular event. The weekend features some of the world’s most influential and acclaimed blues and soul artists including Paul Lamb and his band The King Snakes, James & Blacks, The Kyla Brox Band, Elles Baily, Delta Moon, The Stumble and many more to be confirmed.

Paul Lamb is known by aficionados and music press around the world as a foremost blues harmonica exponent, forging himself a place in the history books as one of the greatest players of our time. A winner of countless awards, he has sold record-breaking quantities of albums and has performed all the world, as well as being inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame.

Bruce James and Bella Black of James & Blacks joined musical forces in Austin, Texas in 2011 and have been on a mission spreading the word of ‘Guerrilla Soul’ ever since. The roots of their music spring from the tradition of the Southern Soul from Texas, New Orleans and Memphis. Together they perform organ heavy New Orleans soul and blues.

Award-winning singer-songwriter, Kyla Brox has been described as “the finest female blues singer of her generation”. Winner of the 2018 UK Blues Challenge, Kyla had the honour of representing the UK in Memphis at the 2019 International Blues Challenge. In a huge nod to her ongoing stature in British Blues, the UK Blues Federation made Kyla an official Ambassador of UK Blues in 2016 and she is one of only three British singers privileged to be included in the 50 Women of the Blues Spotify playlist. With many albums under her belt and many miles covered touring all over the world, Kyla Brox is widely regarded as one of the very best soul-blues singers the British Isles has ever produced.

Charlie Broadhurst, promotor from Event Sound Ltd, said: “Our festival has built up a reputation for bringing together a fantastic collection of blues and soul artists. Ours is a high quality, boutique event, with acts for true aficionados to savour, but it’s also a wonderfully friendly three days, with one whole day allocated to local acts with discounted tickets for families”.

Aside from award-winning acts, the festival features a range of fringe events and music workshops. The festival raises funds for national charity, Music for All, which provides instruments for young people who cannot afford to learn or keep playing music. Camping will be available on-site including boutique glamping chalets.

Tickets for this year’s festival will be limited to 550 per day to allow for the entire programme to be moved into the main Theartr, should the weather be too bad for an outdoor festival. However, if the weather is favourable, the outdoor space can accommodate over a thousand.
