Having travelled across the UK and Ireland for the first live round of the 2019 Funny Women Awards, the audience and industry judges marks from each heat have been totted up and they have announced who, out of 433 acts, will be going through to the Stage Award semi-finals here!
Funny Women founder Lynne Parker said: “This is my 16th run of the Funny Women Awards and I am still as passionate about developing and supporting new female comedy as I was in 2003. There’s always excitement, revelations and surprises and this year is no exception.
“Our partnership with Sky has been invaluable and ensured that we could see and showcase brilliant new talent across the UK and Ireland. As we now go into the final phase we look forward to attracting even more partners to bring you the best entertainment and help us spread the word about Funny Women.”
The semi-finalists at the Frog and Bucket on Wednesday 24 July 6pm, as part of Greater Manchester Fringe, will be Charlotte McKinney, Grace Mulvey, Becky Povall, Sian Davies, Ita Fitz, Catherine Burgis, Anne Gill, Ciara Jack, Chloe Green, Jenny Collier, Justine Stafford, Sikisa Bostwick Barnes, Kathryn Mather, Pauline Eyre and Jessie Nixon.
Other semi finals take place at: Brighton, Komedia on Saturday 27 July, tickets; Camden Fringe London, Dingwalls on Wednesday 31 July, tickets; and Edinburgh Fringe, Assembly George Square, Studio One on Sat 24 August, tickets
Entries for the Stage Awards might be closed but there is still time to enter the Funny Women Comedy Shorts and Comedy Writing Awards categories. The panel of judges for the Comedy Shorts Award will include Kate Daughton, BBC Head Of Comedy, Fiona McDermott, Channel 4 Head Of Comedy, and Sarah Asante, BBC Comedy Commissioning Editor.
The Funny Women Comedy Writing Awards Producers have secured an extremely talented and diverse cross-section of the comedy industry to judge their Awards and lead judging panel will include Farah Abushwesha, Bafta Rocliffe Founder and Producer, Kirstie Swain, writer of Channel 4’s Pure and Shobu Kapoor, award-winning comedy actor.

Maisie Adam presents a preview of her new Edinburgh show Hang Fire, 16-17 July 9.15pm at King's Arms. Winner of So You Think You're Funny and the Amused Moose Award, Maisie was nominated for Best Newcomer at Edinburgh Fringe for her debut show Vague. When Maisie was 13, she googled herself on a school computer. The top result was a news story, accompanied by two mugshots. It would seem - unbeknown to Maisie - she was part of something very dramatic years before and was only just discovering it now. Juliet Meyers: This Flipping Rescue Dog has Ruined My Life, 18-19 July 7.45pm at King's Arms, (Writer on Sarah Millican TV Prog and 8/10 Cats) and her Portuguese rescue dog have issues. This is a stand up/storytelling show about unconditional love, anxiety, canine pee and being a wolf. The actual dog will be there. Sell-out shows at Buxton, Oxford, Guildford and Edinburgh Fringe. Juliet is a regular on the stand-up circuit in the UK and has also performed in USA, Europe and Australia. Tickets are available here.
