NEWS: Oldham's Lyceum Theatre has extended run of Alan Bennett farce this summer!

Lyceum Theatre Oldham performs Alan Bennett Farce for Summer

Lyceum Theatre Oldham, the town’s oldest amateur theatre company, ends its season of comedies with a rip-roaring farce. Following the success of the first three plays in this post-covid season, this production will play one extra performance, opening on Friday 10 June.

The play is by Alan Bennett, best known for his Talking Heads series of monologues as well as for his TV and film scripts, including The History Boys and The Lady in the Van.

His hilarious comedy HABEAS CORPUS (playing 10 – 18 June) gives us characters to laugh at, sometimes to sympathise with, but mostly to thank our lucky stars we don’t know anyone like them!

The action centres around the thwarted libidos of the Wicksteed Family, headed up by GP, Arthur Wicksteed. Each character, from flat-chested spinster, Connie, to strident ex-pat Lady Rumpers, is so well observed, giving the talented cast a chance to play to the crowd and to give audiences a proper belly laugh.

Tickets, at £12 each, are on sale now and are available online at lyceumtheatre.org.uk

Like many other amateur theatres, Lyceum Theatre Oldham is able to carry on only because of a dedicated army of volunteers. Since COVID, people are less likely to join in these types of activities so the theatre is looking for new volunteers to help keep the theatre running. Anyone interested in finding out more about how they can get involved should email lyceumtheatreoldham@gmail.com
