DANCE REVIEW: Breakin' Convention - Sadler's Wells theatre, London.

Breakin' Convention is an annual event hosted by Sadler's Wells Theatre in London which is a celebration of all things hip hop. This weekend would have marked the festival's 17th anniversary, and so, instead of a live concert, a virtual one was given, hosted by Sadler's Wels Associate Artist Jonzi D.

With live music played throughout by The Jazz Re:Freshed Sonic Orchestra - a band of musicians who really knew how to turn on the musical heat with their slightly improvised, reinvented jazzy and wholly upbeat and modern sounding Big Band, creative lighting and effects, the artistes performing in this showcase of hip hop talent, were given the very best support from all aspects of the production.

The online show lasted about 75 minutes, and in that time some of the best hip hopsters around came along and 'strutted their stuff'. Those performing in this 15th Anniversary special [both Breakin' Convention and The Jazz Re:Freshed Sonic Orchestra were celebrating their 15th birthdays] were The Locksmiths, Ruggeds, Mafusa and Ayanna, and Tanaya Ice Martin, but, my perosnal favourites of the evening were Boy Blue (pictured above).

An exciting, exhilerating, and pumped-up evening of creativity in hip hop dance theatre.
