BOOK REVIEW: Lucky Lucy

TITLE: Lucky Lucy
AUTHOR: Coleen Moore-Hayes
PUBLISHED BY: Pegasus Elliot MacKenzie

Dr. Lucy Fallon’s father often called her Lucky Lucy when she was a child because good fortune often seemed to follow her around and whilst on holiday with her best friend, Jessie, at their childhood home of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, she begins to believe he was right. She was enjoying her long over-due holiday watching the beautiful sunsets and swimming in the crystal clear water, staying at the stately Keltic Lodge, the perfect place for fabulous food and beautiful scenery.

But, Lucy has a secret, something too painful and private to share with anyone, not even her family.

Soon the holiday she’s enjoying so much turns into a nightmare which brings Lucy's family and Jessie together in a way they could never have foreseen.

This endearing story had me hooked from page one; it is fast-paced and full of intrigue and suspense.

I particularly liked the location, the famous Cabot Trail which weaves through The Cape Breton Highlands National Park, with spectacular valley and coastal views. It was easy to imagine being there as the author painted the picture so well.

Additionally, the small sized chapters are something I like when reading a book; it makes it easy for readers to put down and pick up again without having to flick back to remember where they are up to in the story.

This heart-warming story has many twists and turns and kept me guessing until the final page; it is an engaging story with likeable characters that kept me wanting to find out more.
