ONLINE CHILDREN'S THEATRE REVIEW: Clever Cakes - Little Angel Theatre.

Lasting just over 10 minutes this sweet little tale spoken and written by Michael Rosen for Little Angel Theatre was a young child's delight.

Rosen's voice is clear and engaging as he narrates his own story of a young girl called Masha who plays hide and seek in the woods near her grandma's house, becomes lost and ends up having to slave all day for a big nasty bear who keeps her as his slave. It is only thanks to her cunning plan of baking some cakes for her granny and escaping back to her in the basket does she finally become reunited with her home and the bear runs away thinking the cakes are enchanted and out to eat him!

It's a lovely little tale and fun, ideal for small children - and brought to life by Little Angel Theatre who use a pop-up book stage and tiny hand-manipulated puppets (also seemingly made from pages of a book) moved around the space by an "unseen" lady in black, who speaks the dialogue of the characters too.

Simple, but deligthful in its simplicity, and a breath of fresh air from all the terrible news and harsh realities of life. We all need more Masha in our lives!
