CHILDRENS THEATRE REVIEW: When... - Pinwheel Theatre online

Pinwheel Theatre in collaboration with Little Angel Theatre have created another beautiful wee gem online for the very young. The story of 'When..' by Emma Dodd is a very simple one, but is just the right length and message for those barely out of nappies.

A baby bears tells his mother, "When I grow up I want to be..." and each time it is a powerful adjective or expression or prowess.... 'big', 'strong', 'clever', 'adventurous' etc ... until the final time and it becomes much more intimate as he says "When I want to grow up I want to be loving and kind... just like you."

Each indivicual scene / set is very good and works well with the two bear puppets; but if I have to be in any way slightly negative, then the transitions between scenes were often a little ragged. This didn't distract overmuch and the young ones probably wouldn't even notice.

Lori Hopkins was both the director and chief puppeteer, with puppetry assitance by Chris Nayak. The apt and helpful music and sound was created by Bathany Kay Hopkins and the sets were designed and made by Naomi Oppenheim.
