TV star to host young writers’ workshop in Bournemouth Gardens
Up to forty talented young writers will be able to pick up some tips from actor-writer Nathan Bryon at a special workshop in Bournemouth Gardens next weekend.
Nathan, familiar to TV audiences from his roles in ITV’s Benidorm and BBC’s Some Girls, will lead a Saturday morning workshop session at Roundabout, the pop-up theatre in Bournemouth Gardens hosted by Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, as part of Bournemouth Arts by the Sea.
The workshop will run from 9-11am on Saturday 28 September in the Roundabout theatre where Nathan’s first full-length play, Dexter and Winter’s Detective Agency, will enjoy a run following its critically acclaimed premiere at this year’s Edinburgh festival.
The young people aged 11-18 are enrolled in the free Young Writers programme of workshops run by Lighthouse in association with Artfulscribe as part of the DO:Write literature development project in Dorset. They meet weekly at Lighthouse to explore a wide range of written art-forms from short story-telling and creative non-fiction to scriptwriting and performance poetry.
The courses are led by Tabitha Howard and Lucy Pearce.
Dexter and Winter’s Detective Agency shows on Friday 27 at 10am, Saturday 28 at 11.30am and Sunday 29 at 2.30pm.
:: Hundreds of additional people will be able to enjoy the gift of live theatre thanks to the generosity of donors to last year’s Big Christmas Appeal at Lighthouse. On Friday 27 September around 150 young people from the Atlantic Academy, Portland; Oakdale Junior School and Bournemouth & Poole College will see Dexter and Winter’s Detective Agency at Roundabout for free.
