EXHIBITION REPORTAGE: Everything I Know, I Felt - The Lowry Theatre, Salford.

What the Lowry says:
‘Everything I Know, I Felt’ is an experiential exhibition exploring the diverse emotional experiences of womxn. Celebrating big feelings in all their messy, multifaceted glory, the work embraces emotional intelligence and questions the societal value of vulnerability.
The exhibition provides a visually stimulating, tactile and empowering space for response, reflection and connection, including interactive installations, community projects, film, photography, performance, painting and poetry.
Comprised of new commissions and collaborations, the curation echoes the collective’s ethos to platform local talent, showcasing work from Manchester’s creative community, exhibiting at The Lowry for the first time.
Alongside the exhibition is a programme of events from parties, panels and performances to drink and draws, destruction, debates and a teen takeover. More details to be announced soon.

And so one of our reviewers, Thalia Terpsichore, went to the grand opening to see for herself...
Girl Gang Manchester are a local collective of female-identifying artists, activists, academics and party instigators, who believe everyone is an artist, and that politics and feminism are for everyone.

The Lowry commissioned their latest exhibition "Everything I Know, I Felt" to explore the idea of raw female emotion. It features the works of  twenty one local female-identifying artists, incorporates survey responses from the wider Girl Gang Manchester community, and has a series of live tie-in events planned as well.

This reviewer particularly appreciated: "What Motherhood Does To Your Brain" by Alison Erika Forde (a collage of images in mixed media); "Love Buzz" by Lowri Evans (an interactive sculpture); "Teenage Bedroom" by the Girl Gang Community (a full recreation of a teenage girl's bedroom circa 1997); "Red Tent Stories" by Tasha Whittle and Talie Linseed (a full-size menstruation tent created from modern items of red clothing stitched together); and "I'm Always Happy When I'm Helping You" by Kirsty Morrissey and Anna Horton Cremin (a reprogrammed Alexa sculpture with attitude!) "

Girl Gang Manchester have taken our The Lowry's exhibition spaces and will be presenting a number of different events throughout March and April. Check the theatre's webiste for full details... www.thelowry.com/whats-on/
