The wait is almost over. ‘Jerry Mania’ will sweep across Manchester in just four weeks’ time with the revival of a controversial show not seen on stage for 15 years.
The hotly anticipated revival of Jerry Springer – The Opera opens at Hope Mill Theatre, Manchester, on Friday 9 August and runs for almost four weeks to Saturday 31 August 2019.
Excitement is rapidly building following the recent cast announcements of Northern-based talent and release of the show’s official trailers.
Fans of the cult TV show have been snapping up tickets and are now counting down the days until they can see their favourite characters brought to life on stage in front of their very own eyes.
The ensemble cast will be led by renowned actor Michael Howe as Jerry Springer. Michael, who bears a strong resemblance to the television personality, is best known from his television role playing Sebastian in the BBC series Solo alongside Felicity Kendall; as well as Mr Wilson the barrister in Hollyoaks.
Michael is joined by David Burilin from St Helens as Montel/Jesus; Andrew Patrick-Walker as Tremont/Angel Gabriel; Elizabeth Chadwick as Zandra/Irene/Mary; Matt Bond as Dwight/God; Robbie Waugh from Clitheroe as Chucky/Adam; CiCi Howells as Shawntel;Canadian-born now Liverpool-based Kai Jolley as Steve; Georgina James as Andrea/Archangel Michael; Emily Chesterton from Salford as Baby Jane/Peaches; and Tom Lloyd from Wirral as Satan/Jonathan Weiruss.
The line-up also includes Emily Clarke and Megan Davies-Truin plus the Jerry Choir. The 14-stong Jerry Choir comprises singers fromacross the Greater Manchester region who will play an instrumental role in the show by supporting the cast of professional actors.
Jerry Springer – The Opera is being brought back to the stage by new production company Northern Ricochet, recently formed by James Baker (Parade, Yank), Tom Chester (Parade, Mamma Mia), and Bill Elms (Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles, The Ruby Slippers, Something About Simon).
Northern Ricochet are passionate about producing quality theatre in the North, the company aims to give a platform to Northern actors and undiscovered Northern talent.
The first joint venture from Northern Ricochet will see James Baker as Director; Tom Chester as Musical Director; and Bill Elms as Co-Producer of Jerry Spring – The Opera.
Co-producer Bill Elms commented: “Rehearsals are soon underway, and we are beyond excited to get everyone together – our 14 professional cast members, 14-strong Jerry choir, 6-piece band and our creative team – bringing the show to life. It’s going to be a very special theatrical experience at Hope Mill Theatre and with a sound that will surely blow the roof! We’re excited to bring ‘Jerry Mania’ to Manchester in four weeks’ time.”
JERRY SPRINGER – THE OPERA caused a storm when it came to the UK stage in 2002, and in this new revival it promises the same raucous energy with a revamped and fresh production for 2019!
JERRY SPRINGER - THE OPERA was written by Richard Thomas, who also wrote the music and lyrics, with the book and additional lyrics by Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas. It is based on The Jerry Springer Show, which was first broadcast on television in 1991 and was on the air for 27 years. It tells the story of America’s favourite talk show host who suffers the worst day in his career when faced with some of the most challenging guests he’s ever met on set.
