The next CHAMELEONS: HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS… rescheduled to 2021.

Due to the current circumstances for live music, the annual homecoming of the cult Manchester band will instead take place on Saturday 1st May 2021 (moved from Saturday 19th December 2020).

In a statement about the move, Chameleons frontman Mark Burgess says:
“It’s with a deep feeling of sadness that we have to announce that this year’s Christmas show at the Academy, which was due to feature Chameleons alongside Theatre of Hate**, will be postponed now until Saturday May 1st 2021. Obviously, this is due to the uncertainty surrounding the current situation concerning the spread of Covid 19, which has caused the cancellation of most of this year’s live performance calendar. This will be the first Christmas in years that we will not be able to gather on mass and celebrate Chameleons music alongside similarly cool talent, and it really sums up what has been a tragic year in so many ways. We held out as long as possible in the hope that by the time December came along we would be on the way to putting this terrible year behind us and celebrating optimistically for the future, but with social distancing measures still very much in place and talks of a possible second wave, we had to make a decision and it was decided that in the interests of safety and security, we really had no choice but to postpone. Obviously, we apologise to our audience, many of who I know had already booked flights and accommodation. Please know that if there had been any other option we would have taken it. We wish to extend to everyone our best wishes and hope that you’ll stay safe and well; and with luck we can eventually put this horrible experience behind us and all get together next May.”

** Theatre of Hate will be replaced for this show in 2021 by Kirk Brandon’s alter-ego Spear of Destiny.

All tickets for the original show remain valid. For those unable to attend the new date, refunds will be available from point of purchase. Tickets available here.

Presenting…
Chameleons: Home Is Where The Heart Is...2021 – Part One
‘Resurrection - The Academy Set From June 2000’

With demand to see the annual homecoming of the cult Manchester outfit at an all-time high, Chameleons are pleased to reveal some spectacular plans for what will be the seventh edition of ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’.

Few bands are granted a second shot to return to their career peaks, but on Saturday 1st May 2021 Chameleons will do just that as they headline the major stage of Manchester Academy for the first time in 2 decades…
There are some gigs in every band’s career that simply stand out from the pack. Ask any Chameleons die-hard fan and they’ll tell you that the band’s show at Manchester Academy in the blazing hot summer of June 2000 was precisely one of those. With the 2000 plus crowd baying for “more” long after the lights went up after a blistering second encore of ‘Don’t Fall’ and a deafening, feedback-skewered cover of Alternative TV’s ‘Splitting In Two’; 21 years later, those calls will be answered.

Following the sell-out success and runaway enthusiasm amongst fan circles for the band’s ‘Return of The Roughnecks - The Ritz Set 1985’ last year; Chameleons now look to recapture the magic of another of their seminal performances. Next Summer, Chameleons’ ‘Resurrection’ show will take the Manchester Academy audience back in time to June 2000 as they recreate one of their most legendary sets in its full and complete glory.

For some the Academy gig will be a second chance to relive one of their favourite ever performances, for others a redemptive opportunity to finally say “I Was There” too. From the reverberating bars of set-opener ‘Swamp Thing’, to the hurricane force of ‘A Person Isn’t Safe Anywhere These Days’, expect to be blown away as the band unfurl the enigmatic majesties of their greatest tracks heightened with tempestuous live versions: through ‘Second Skin’, to ‘Soul In Isolation’, to ‘Perfume Garden’.

As a tantalising added bonus, the forthcoming Academy show will welcome back founding Chameleons guitarist Reg Smithies to resume position alongside long-standing ‘Chameleons Vox’ custodian Mark Burgess.

Every year, the Home Is Where The Heart Is… series has seen the influential frontman of Chameleons: Mark Burgess digging deep into the cult band’s coveted back-catalogue to unearth forgotten gems and glittering rarities to perform live to an audience that is growing exponentially year on year. Moving from its spiritual home at Manchester Academy 2 for a one-off celebration at the O2 Ritz, Mark and co. will truly return home to where the heart is in 2021, with the torch returning to the Academy once again for the next instalment.

As in previous years, the annual shindig will see Chameleons invite their allies new and old to perform as part of the line up. Next year, revellers can look forward to sets from Kirk Brandon-fronted post-punk heroes Spear of Destiny, PLUS cult new-wave band B-Movie.

Post punk four-piece The Chameleons formed in Middleton, Greater Manchester in 1981. Fronted by singer and bassist Mark Burgess, the band went on to release six studio albums and an EP, along with many Peel sessions, live records and compilations in a career spanning three decades. With a cult following hooked on their iridescent indie, Burgess has continued performing the material recorded during this time live under the moniker Chameleons Vox to an ever-adoring fan base. Welcoming their founding guitarist back into the line-up, 2021 will see the first Chameleons show featuring both Mark Burgess (Bass / Vocals) & Reg Smithies (Guitar) in Manchester for over 16 years.
