Fantastic productions for families of all ages at Theatr Clwyd this spring.
There’s some fantastic
work for families of all ages at Theatr Clwyd this spring. The new season kicks
off with Oily Cart’s brand new multi-sensory show for the under 5s All
Wrapped Up (28 Jan – 1 Feb). All is not
as it seems in this beautiful production as wrapping paper transforms into mischievous
creatures and hidden worlds – all brought to life through the magic of light,
shadow and the audience’s imaginations. This magically inventive show will end
with audiences of all ages unwrapping their own papery worlds of wonder,
exploring what beautiful shapes and shadows they can create from playing with
light and dark.
In February Ad Infinitum
and Bristol Old Vic visit Mold for the first time to present Chloe
and the Colour Catcher (26 – 27 Feb). In a world
that is completely grey, a curious child goes on a courageous journey to
unleash all seven shades of the rainbow. Ad Infinitum’s first full length show
for children, Chloe and the Colour Catcher is a call to arms for young
activists and future world-changers to speak out against what’s wrong and to
celebrate their differences.
A brand-new Welsh language production
for children aged 4+ with live music and stunning movement, Chwarae
(10 March) takes children on a journey to experience the different worlds of
play, be they imaginary, found online or in the ‘real world’. A feast for the
senses Chwarae was developed collaboratively with families in North
Wales.
Action Transport Theatre return with a new their
new production Adrift (11 – 12 March). A refugee fairytale for
children aged 8 – 11, Adrift is a celebration of the resilience and
imagination of childhood telling the tender tale of two children in a boat imagining
a mermaid, a whale and a safe new land.
A magical adventure for children aged 4+ the enchanting world of Sarah and
Duck is brought to life in a brand-new stage-show Sarah and Duck’s Big
Top Birthday. Featuring the characters from the BAFTA award-winning CBeebies
show. Join Sarah and Duck, and a host of their friends including The Ribbon
Sisters, The Shallots, Flamingo & John and Umbrella as they plan out a birthday
party for Scarf Lady in their garden.
For children with a love of nature, Pickled Image crafts a magical
tale with an urgent environmental message in Woodland Tales with Granddad.
Something is happening in the woods, voices
can be heard, and a strange metallic smell fills the air. Machines are
gathering at its edge and a mysterious call is heard across the valley. Laura
the ladybird, Jeffrey the spider, Brett the Woodlouse and Willoughby the
Woodpecker are worried. Velda the Vixen knows there’s only one person who can
help them – Granddad. But is there enough time? Can they save the wood? Featuring
a cast of extraordinary puppets, this uproarious family show not only
entertains, but has an important and timely environmental message to share with
children aged 3+.
‘Cats sit on mats, hares sit on chairs, mules sit on stools, gophers sit on
sofas and frogs sit on logs.’ Expect songs, puppets and most importantly rhymes in an
action-packed stage adaptation of Kes Gray and Jim Field’s bestselling book Oi
Frog. It’s a new day at Sittingbottom school and FROG is
looking for a place to sit, but CAT has other ideas and DOG is doing as he’s
told. Little do any of them know that chaos is coming... Who knew there were so
many rhyming rules and what will happen when FROG is in charge?
A theatrical treat that is perfect for lovers of Harry Potter, Tim Burton and Lemony Snicket, The Mystery of the Raddlesham Mumps comes to Theatr Clwyd in May. Celebrated poet and broadcaster Murray Lachlan Young stars in this thrilling new family performance for children aged 7+. After the windswept double funeral of his parents, 7-year-old Crispin (or Crispin de Quincy de Faversham Clumps to give him his full name) inherits his ancestral home – Raddlesham Mumps. He finds himself in a huge empty house with only an ancient butler for company. And when that butler, Kenilworth, begins to tell him about the bizarre and hilarious deaths of his deeply eccentric ancestors the story takes flight on darkly comic wings. The acclaimed Raddlesham Mumps mixes compelling story telling with a brilliant musical score, oodles of theatricality and a touch of exquisite silliness.
