NEWS: Second anniversary restart for The Last Quiz Night on Earth for Oldham's Coliseum Theatre

Second anniversary restart for The Last Quiz Night on Earth in Oldham

Almost exactly two years on, immersive play-come-pub quiz The Last Quiz Night on Earth will run at Oldham’s The Bank Top Tavern on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 March, presented by Oldham Coliseum Theatre and live@thelibrary.

The production was originally due to be presented on Monday 16 March 2020 - the night the Coliseum, in line with all UK Theatre venues, closed with immediate effect following the government announcement advising people to avoid public buildings including theatres to help slow the spread of coronavirus. That evening Coliseum staff worked tirelessly to contact audiences for the now-cancelled performance with just an hour’s notice. A week later the UK entered the first lockdown of the pandemic and the Coliseum remained closed for 16 months, reopening on 24 June 2021.

Produced by Box of Tricks Theatre, The Last Quiz Night on Earth is an immersive comedy with a twist, coincidentally set the night before an apocalyptic event…

An asteroid is heading toward the earth, what would you do? Head to your local for a pub quiz of course! Landlady Kathy invites audiences to the last quiz night on earth with quizmaster Rav. He’s the host with the most, but with time ticking some unanticipated guests turn up out of the blue. Expect the unexpected to the bitter end and plenty of drama.

Following two sold out tours of Chip Shop Chips, Box of Tricks is back with a bang with Alison Carr's explosive pre-apocalyptic comedy. So grab a drink and join us for a night you won’t forget. Let’s get quizzical, quizzical!

Tickets for The Last Quiz Night on Earth come with complimentary pie (vegetarian options available) and peas. The show runs at The Bank Top Tavern in Oldham town centre on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 March 2022.

During its 16-month closure Oldham Coliseum’s teams worked remotely to create and share great art and opportunities to be creative, and made regular phone calls to participants at risk of experiencing loneliness due to lockdown. The theatre’s work in lockdown includes: interactive murder mystery Whodunnit at the Coliseum? the Advent PlaysDigital Panto Storytelling, the Mini-Podcast series, the Poetry Health Service – a Homemakers commission in partnership with HOME Manchester, streaming of hit musical The Hired Man and Coliseum Creates – a resource pack of fun activities for families and children of all ages.
