CAMBRIDGE ARTS THEATRE WELCOMES ITS HIGHEST EVER NUMBER OF
WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENTS
Cambridge Arts Theatre is thrilled to welcome 33
young people for summer Work Experience placements, the largest number of
cohorts to date, as they hope to compensate for the missed opportunities caused
by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Arts Theatre’s well-established Work Experience
programme offers participants aged 14-18 the opportunity to explore all aspects
of work in a performing arts venue, from Programming to Finance and Box Office
to Technical. For many students it is their first experience of a sector
contributing an estimated £10.8 billion to the UK economy and acts as a gateway
to further volunteering and training.
Research from the Institute of Fiscal Studies
suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected young people’s career
prospects and threatens to have a prolonged negative economic impact on them as
a result. As a result, Cambridge Arts Theatre is keen to welcome more Work
Experience students than ever before to compensate for the missed opportunities
of 2020.
Dave Murphy, Chief
Executive at Cambridge Arts Theatre says: “Young people are at the heart of
our mission to inspire a lifelong love of the performing arts. This year, it is
more important than ever that we welcome school aged students to the Theatre
and help them to understand the variety of careers that are possible within the
performing arts.”
Susie, a 14 year-old
student and participant in this year’s programme says: “I would like to pursue a
career in the performing arts and I applied to undertake Work Experience at
Cambridge Arts Theatre because I want to learn more about the industry.”
