ONLINE MONOLOGUE REVIEW: And You Are? - The Lockdown Theatre Company
Inspired by my first dip into the monologues of The Lockdown Theatre Company (available for free on YouTube), I decided to watch a couple more. The next one to jump out at me was the curiously titled, 'And You Are?'.
This 5 minute piece, written by Rohan Candappa and performed by Katrina Kleve, serves as a possible answer to the question you sometimes get at a party or reception when someone there obviously doesn't know you. The piece asks us not to judge people from their outward appearance or even by the sum of all their achievements, voice and speech, imploring us not to simply 'pigeon-hole' people from an initial inconsequential meeting. We are told that who we are is not our idea of who we think we are, nor is it anyone else's; nor is it how we deliberately choose to show ourselves as being either in person or on social media. We are an elaborate compilation of sensory moments and not a deliberate construction.
A strong message candidly projected.
