NEWS: The Last Five Years returns to Southwark Playhouse.
Way, way, back many centuries ago..... oh no wait, wrong musical! Although it does seem like that, despite the lockdown only occuring in March, so much has happened (or hasn't happened) in the interim, that it seems a million years since anyone was able to venture into a theatre and watch a live performance.
With the somewhat hopeful news that the government are now allowing indoor performances from this weekend, and lots of companies turning to outdoor shows, perhaps there is a light at the end of the tunnel (oops, another wrong show, sorry!) for most of us.
One such light is the welcome return of the muscial which had to stop in March. Cast, crew and all theatre staff simply left the building and the set remained on the theatre's stage... and it is still there, untouched.
Good news then that Katy Lipson of Aria Entertainment, the production company behind the musical, and Southwark Playhouse are now continuing where they left off. The Musical has been slightly alterted to allow social distancing - despite the show being only a two-hander - and reduced capacity seating in the auditorium. The show will run for 90 minutes through with no interval.
The Last Five Years reopens at Southwark Playhouse form the 1st October and runs for a whole month.
Reportage - Matthew Dougall.
