THEATRE REVIEW: Telescope by Philip Ridley - online live steaming

A monologue delivered straight to camera.
A world premiere.
A performance by an actress who should've been acting in another world premiere by this author.
A virus put a stop to that!

The monologue lasted 7 minutes, then it was gone. The performance however has stayed.

Unique Spencer (the actress narrating the monologue) is the daughter in a seemingly fairly normal family. They argue, they bicker, they make up, they understand each other, they tolerate each others' foibles. Life goes on. Life is normal.

Until one day and the appearance of a package, a large package, which they open. It is a large "assemble yourself" telescope. Dad goes into the garden and it takes him 3 hours to complete.

It seems though that coincidental or otherwise the arrival of this telescope has put an unnecessary strain on the family and it makes her mother ill. An emergency doctor is called and she is diagnosed with bronchitis. Her antibiotics don't seem to be doing any good either. Life suddenly has new meaning and the family is fractuous and stressed again.

Could this have anything to do with the young man found dead on the common? Martians? or perhaps even the telescope?

Once again the monologue was directed by Wiebke Green and once again it was a compelling watch. Fast becoming the highlight of my week.
