PREVIEW: Woyzeck - Folk, Liverpool.
Old Fruit Jar Productions will soon be performing Woyzeck at Hope Street Theatre, Liverpool; so our reviewer Mark Cooper went along to a public preview of the play this evening at Folk, a bar / restaurant and performance venue in Liverpool.
Woyzeck was initially written by Georg Büchner in 1836, unfortunately, he passed away a year later. Therefore, the unfinished play was posthumously completed by various authors, however this piece uses the version by Jack Thorne in 2017. Alex Carr directed Woyzeck with a great flair and enthusiasm for this play. The cast consisted of actors, Jordan Barkley (Woyzeck), Florence King (Marie), Anthony Roberts (Andrews), Rachel McGarth (Maggie), Christina Rose (Woyzeck’s Mother), Josh Ennis (Captain Thompson) and Jamie Peacock (Doctor Martens).
Without revealing too much detail about the play, the story revolves around a deeply troubled, tortured solider, who was experiencing major difficulties in his family and work life, which both collide. The play was looking really good and ready to go for it’s launch, when it opens on the 22nd of January until the 25th at The Hope Street Theatre.
Really looking forward to seeing the finished product of Woyzeck in a few weeks. Definitely worth going to see.
