NEWS: Liverpool Philharmonic Hall's new season launch
Our reviewer Anne Pritchard went along this evening to The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall to hear about what delights are in store for thier next exciting season of music and concerts.
The Liverpool Philharmonic New Season Launch was an opportunity to present music lovers with a diverse range of impressive music, from classical repertoire concerts to new music and films taking place at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall from September 2019 to July 2020. Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is welcoming international guest artists to Liverpool from every music genre and providing opportunities to nurture the next generation of new talent for the music industry along with bringing the thrill of live music to people of all ages.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Nigel Weatherill and Michael Eaton, Chief Executive of Liverpool Philharmonic Hall provided the introduction to the evening outlining how their vision is to be one of the world’s greatest music-making organisations whilst at the same time being an ambassador for Liverpool.
We were treated to two musical interludes; the first performed by the In Harmony Liverpool Chamber Stars ensemble, made up of mainly schoolchildren and then classical pianist Boris Giltburg who played three pieces superbly. Both were well received and appreciated by the audience.
Next came a discussion by a panel of five members of the Liverpool Philharmonic led by Tim Linhoreau, Classic FM Director and Breakfast Show presenter, which gave us an insight into future concerts and performances. Conductor Vasily Petrenko provided an overview of the forthcoming Mahler Symphony and Beethoven 250 concerts plus the Christmas Messiah production and the Sunday Afternoon Classics Ode to Joy recital.
Highlights for the forthcoming season include Glyndebourne Film Screenings of operas Don Giovanni, Don Pasquale and Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg; the showing of films such as The Wizard of Oz, Ghostbusters, The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child all with live orchestral accompaniment; Songs from the Musicals on Valentine’s Day; Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company concerts; Summon the Superheroes concert with music from films such as Batman, Spiderman, the Incredibles and Moana (with a photo call opportunity with some superheroes afterwards in the foyer); the much-loved Christmas concerts plus the Sing-Along Santa shows and Under 5’s Concerts designed especially for the youngest of audiences which include a 45 minutes experience of enjoying music through storytelling and movement to music. There are also Dementia-Friendly concerts, something new reflecting the all too familiar condition we have all come to be acquainted with.
All in all a very informal, informative and entertaining evening, and a season I am looking forward to immensely.
