Operattion Perfect Teaset's 80s Summer Camp - The King's Arms, Salford.
Rotten Road Productions' latest wacky and off the scale adult comedy is a lampooning of everything 1980s; especially the films of the time, in particular Dirty Dancing, as we find ourselves at Camp Aztitz somewhere in the Ozarks if the accents are anything to go by. There are two councellors both a dumb as each other, and they, along with a socially awkward, glasses-wearing, spotty, kid called Angela form the basis of this horror spoof.
All three play other characters too along the way, and the story-line is based on the horror parody genre such as 'Scream' whereby a child on a previous camp was sodomised by various animals and girl scouts and now wreaks revenge on any person caught doing anything even vaguely sexual by hacking them to death. Add this to the fact that the camp needs to win the upcoming talent competition or else they face having to shut down.
The show lasts for about 80 minutes, but they also added an interval. It is a series of small sketches, some funnier and better observed than others, and of course everything works out fine in the end... or does it???
However I feel that the show would have worked much better with some judicious trimming and losing the interval. Some of the characters were even for a parody of a parody not particularly funny, but the main three were excellent. I therefore would perhaps have been tempted to have stuck to just those three and made more out of them and developed them more.
It's a raw and rather rough and ready production which does have some excellent and highly funny moments, and their commitment to this irreverent and totally un-pc bizarre comedy is superb. The whole just lacks focus.
