Theatr Clwyd announces new 2019/20 Classical Season

8 Classical Concerts, 24 Internationally Renowned Musicians, 18 Classical Masterpieces.

With a diverse range of internationally acclaimed musicians, highlights of Theatr Clwyd’s  2019/20 Classical Season include one of the most revered musicians of his generation and one of the pianists of our time Stephen Kovacevich, BBC Young Musician of the Year and saxophone sensation Jess Gilliam and Gramophone Young Artist of the Year and Classical Brit winner Benjamin Grosvenor.

Artistic Director, Tamara Harvey said “We are so excited by the quality and range of classical concerts gracing our stages at Theatr Clwyd, and proud to be showcasing over 24 internationally renowned musicians in the coming year. As part of our continued efforts to make the arts accessible to all, we are offering £10 concert tickets this season for those aged 26 or under. We look forward to welcoming new audiences and welcoming back our loyal supporters to this wonderful range of concerts.”

The 2019/20 Classical Season

Stephen Kovacevich - Piano
Sun 8 September 7.30pm
American-born pianist Stephen Kovacevich is one of the most revered musicians of his generation and one of the great pianists of our time. He plays monumental works by Beethoven, Bach and Schubert’s last great sonata.

Benjamin Mellefont – Clarinet
Ariana Kashefi – Cello
Jâms Coleman – Piano

Anglesey’s brilliant pianist Jâms Coleman joins Ariana Kashefi, a prize winner at the International Rubinstein Competition in Berlin and ex-Principal Clarinetist at the Liverpool Philharmonic Benjamin Mellefont to perform beautiful clarinet sonatas and trios.

Alina Ibragimova – Violin
Cédric Tiberghien – Piano

Russian-born violin virtuoso Ibragimova is one of the most accomplished and intriguing violinists of her generation. Following her debuts with the Toronto Symphony and Stockholm Philharmonic, her programme includes great Mozart sonatas and favorites from Mendelssohn.

Benjamin Grosvenor – Piano

A Gramophone Young Artist of the Year and Classical Brit winner, Grosvenor is a former BBC Young Musician of the Year, now internationally recognised for his electrifying performances, distinctive sound and insightful interpretations.

Jess Gilliam – Saxophone

Saxophone sensation Jess Gillam was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year and has featured at the Last Night of the Proms in 2018. She is a regular performer and presenter on BBC Radio.

Carducci String Quartet & Navarra String Quartet

A rare opportunity to hear internationally renowned quartets join forces to perform Mendelssohn’s sublime masterwork, the Octet. The Carducci is one of the world’s major quartets. The Navarra has a reputation as one of the most dynamic and poetic string quartets.
